An Ohio Highway Patrol trooper from the Defiance post charged with injuring a man during a fight in July was arraigned Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Jason Urbina, 25, of Bryan pleaded not guilty to one count of felonious assault.

He is charged with causing serious physical harm to Ryan Fisher, 25, of Cincinnati.

If convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison. Judge Gene Zmuda set a pretrial hearing for Sept. 8.

Sylvania police said Trooper Urbina was a member of a wedding party at the Wingate Hotel on South Main Street in Sylvania when he became involved in a quarrel with a man from another wedding party.

The incident escalated to a physical confrontation in which the victim was knocked unconscious.

Trooper Urbina is on paid leave pending the outcome of an administrative investigation, the patrol said.
