12-year-old Michigan boy drowns in pond

LIMA, Ohio — A 12-year-old boy drowned in a pond Saturday while attending a midget football team party in Allen County's American Township, county sheriff's deputies said.

The boy was identified as Christopher Warthem, who was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center.

Deputies did not report where he lived.

Authorities received a call about 1:55 p.m. that someone might have drowned in a pond at 360 North Copus Rd.

Deputies and the American Township police and fire departments responded.

Dive teams from Delphos, Ohio, and the county entered the pond at 3:12 p.m. and found young Warthem.
