FREMONT - A Sandusky County man was seriously injured and a house was damaged extensively Saturday when a driver lost consciousness in his driveway and drove through a field and into a neighbor's house.

The driver, Michael J. Thompson, 54, of Jackson Township was taken by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition Saturday.

Troopers at the Fremont post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said Mr. Thompson was headed east in his driveway on County Road 12 near Township Road 37 about 9:45 a.m. when he lost consciousness. He drove off the left side of the driveway and continued until he hit the house. Rescue crews cut him from his sport utility vehicle, which stopped in the basement-foundation of the house, trapping him. He was wearing a seat belt.

The house's foundation, interior walls, and flooring were damaged, troopers said. No one inside was injured.
