PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio — This year's Put-in-Bay Historical Weekend is getting a visit from a contingent of sailors of the USS Lake Erie (CG-70), a Ticonderoga-class, guided-missile cruiser based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
The three-day event, which begins Friday, is an annual celebration of the Navy's victory over the British during the Battle of Lake Erie, a turning point in the War of 1812. In that battle, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry defeated a British squadron of six ships near Put-in-Bay.
Music, art, a parade, and activities with historical themes will be featured.
