Toledo Mayor Mike Bell, along with Deputy Mayor for External Relations Dean Monske, will join a delegation of northwest Ohio businessmen on a trip to China, his spokesman announced Friday.

The goal is to develop economic connections and attracting jobs back to northwest Ohio, said mayoral spokesman Jen Sorgenfrei.

The group departs Friday and will return on Sept. 19.

“Toledo has many assets that make us globally competitive,” Mayor Bell said in a written statement. “It's time that we begin positively marketing this region and our workforce if we are to attract business back to the Midwest.”

The delegation will visit Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Ordos, Yulin and Beijing during the trip.

The 2010 Sustainability Conference hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai will be one stop on the itinerary as will the 2010 World Expo also being held in Shanghai.

The group also will meet with chief executive officers to familiarize them with Toledo's investment assets and encourage visits to the region.
