FREMONT — A standoff outside a home on Fremont's east side ended peacefully after the suspect put down his gun and surrendered.

Guy Crispin, 57, was arrested about 11:40 p.m. Thursday by Fremont police, who charged him with possessing a weapon while intoxicated and inducing panic.

Police said Mr. Crispin called officers at 9:52 p.m., saying he was going to kill himself.

When officers arrived at his South Pennsylvania Avenue home, they found a man in the backyard armed with a .357 Magnum.

The suspect reportedly fired one shot into the ground, but did not injure himself or anyone at the scene.

Police said the suspect was depressed about health and financial issues.
