Official says price to fall for ‘green' electric plan

BOWLING GREEN — Municipal electricity customers who choose to participate in the city's “green pricing” program will see the cost go down next month.

Kevin Maynard, city utilities director, said the current Nature's Energy program will become the EcoSmart Choice program beginning Oct. 1.

At that time, rather than paying an extra 1.5 cents per kilowatt hour, participants will pay an extra 0.7 cent per kilowatt hour.

Proceeds generated through the optional program are used to purchase renewable energy certificates, including wind, hydroelectric, and landfill gas, which help stimulate new renewable energy resource development.

EcoSmart Choice is available to residential, commercial, and industrial customers who may elect to participate at 25 percent, 50 percent, 75 percent, or 100 percent of their energy consumption.
