County adds to funds for student bus passes

9/29/2010

More Toledo Public Schools students from low-income families will be able to take the bus to school as a result of action taken by the Lucas County commissioners Tuesday.

The commissioners voted 3-0 to make an additional $265,000 available for TARTA passes for 736 students receiving free or subsidized lunches, including high school students, if they live three or more miles away.

The additional schools are Pickett Elementary, Toledo Early College, Toledo Technical Academy, and Bowsher, Rogers, Waite, Woodward, and Start high schools.

This funding is in addition to $500,000 the commissioners appropriated Aug. 31 to buy TARTA passes for low-income students who were attending “swing” schools while their own home schools were under construction.
