Humane Ohio, a local non-profit organization, is sponsoring another roundup of feral cats in South Toledo to vaccinate and spay or neuter the animals this month.

The cats will be trapped Oct. 13 and 17 in the 43609 ZIP Code. Residents within that code who care for feral cats can have the cats vaccinated or neutered without charge.

The event is part of a project to spay or neuter and vaccinate 2,600 free-roaming cats in the ZIP Code over a two-year period through 2011. Humane Ohio said that so far, it has fixed more than 700 free-roaming cats in the area.

The project is possible via grant money. The agency offers spaying or neutering to caretakers of free-roaming cats in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, at $25 for a stray, feral, or barn cat.
