Local treatment center is named best in Ohio
10/4/2010The community treatment center run by Volunteers of America Northwest Ohio has been honored by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections as the best Community Based Correctional Facility in Ohio.
The local center is a 78-bed facility in Toledo that provides a number of services, including anger management, employment assistance, computer training, and substance-abuse education.
The Clifford Skeen Award is given by the state corrections department to show commitment to community corrections as a viable alternative to incarceration. It is given in honor of the late eight-term Ohio Representative Clifford Skeen, who sponsored the Community Correction Act passed by the Ohio General Assembly in 1979 to reduce the number of nondangerous offenders being sent to state prisons.
