Teen to be tried as adult over shots at officer

A 16-year-old Toledoan, who police say was one of four people involved with a shooting at an officer who was inside his vehicle, was certified in Lucas County Juvenile Court to face attempted murder charges as an adult.

Raul Moya, 16, of East Broadway, appeared before Judge Denise Cubbon Tuesday for a probable cause hearing. After waiving his right to a full hearing, the teenager was certified as an adult and ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

The Moya youth is accused of involvement in the July 19 incident in South Toledo in which an officer was shot at while chasing a vehicle. The officer suffered a minor head wound.

Assistant Lucas County Prosecutor Lori Olender said the teen's DNA was found on two items.

The teenager was also certified to face a separate aggravated robbery charge as an adult. He is alleged to have been one of five people who robbed a Circle K convenience store at 1444 W. Alexis Rd. at 6:11 a.m. June 27. Although the teen is not accused of holding a weapon, two guns were used during the incident, Ms. Olender said.

Judge Cubbon set bond on the robbery case at $100,000.
