A Toledo man was treated at a hospital after jumping from his second-story bedroom window to escape what started as a garage fire at a home on Acton Drive in South Toledo, authorities said

Jamarr Hughley was treated at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, for cuts to his feet, police said, after he dropped from his second-floor bedroom window.

Alice Childs, one of the neighbors who called 911 after seeing smoke and flames coming from the structure, said she saw Mr. Hughley sitting on the ground kitty-corner from the fire, complaining of ankle pain.

Rescue personnel at the scene said Mr. Hughley had been sleeping when he smelled smoke and saw flames. He crawled out the window.

The fire was reported at 11:04 a.m. and was under control at

11:28 a.m., according to a fire dispatcher. The cause remains under investigation.

The Lucas County auditor's Web site lists Autumn Wood Limited Partnership of Cincinnati as the owner of the houses.
