A woman texting while driving was arrested after she struck a man riding his bicycle in South Toledo, police said.

Kaylie Ray, 23, of 2113 Dundee Ave. was released from the Lucas County jail Tuesday on $1,100 bond after being charged with driving under the influence, failure to stop after an accident, and operating a vehicle without full attention.

Ms. Ray was westbound on Glendale Avenue near Valley Way Drive about 8:30 p.m. Monday when she struck Charles Marnecheck, 61, of South Toledo, knocking him off his bicycle, Toledo police Sgt. Sharon McCalebb said.

Ms. Ray admitted to officers on scene she was texting while driving, and her phone was seized as evidence, the sergeant said.

Mr. Marnecheck was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries. A hospital spokesman said she had no information on a patient by that name.

Toledo became the second major city in Ohio after Cleveland to ban texting while driving. The offense is a minor misdemeanor in city limits.
