B.G. Council rejects hotel tax

BOWLING GREEN — The seven-member City Council Monday night unanimously rejected a proposed hotel-motel tax that would have doubled the tax to 6 percent over the next three years.

Local hoteliers generally opposed the plan, which they felt would give them a competitive disadvantage. Some also opposed the fact that much of the tax increase would benefit the city's general fund rather than be directed to the Bowling Green Convention and Visitors Bureau to promote tourism.

The plan was expected to generate an estimated $100,000 a year.
