Marilyn Wendler, curator of the Wolcott House Museum in Maumee, adjusts the mane of a rocking horse made in about 1899 on the opening day of the ‘Joys and Toys of Christmas Past' at the museum. The exhibit, which runs through Dec. 19 at the museum, 1035 River Road, features toys that have dazzled children over the years, from the early 19th century through the Great Depression.
Cardboard cutouts of soldiers in European uniforms stand at attention to greet visitors. Hours of the exhibit are 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. More information can be obtained by calling the museum at 419-893-9602.
A doll that dates to the 1840s is still wearing its original dress as it sits on a chair near one of the trees decorated for Christmas at the museum.
