Bond was set at $1 million Saturday for a Toledo man arrested Friday in connection with a recent string of rapes and attempted abductions that centered on South and East Toledo.

Vincent Vernell Williams, 30, of 615 Cherry St. was arraigned Saturday in Toledo Municipal Court. He was arrested Friday night in the 600 block of Fassett Street in East Toledo after a car and foot chase and was charged with two counts of rape.

Bond was set at $500,000 for each count. Williams requested a public defender during the arraignment. Chief Michael Navarre said detectives identified Williams as the suspect early Friday and staked out locations during the day. Undercover officers located his car at 7:35 p.m. Friday in East Toledo and called on uniformed officers to make an arrest, Chief Navarre said.
