St. Paul Community Center has a big-ticket item on its wish list: a commercial-size dryer.
The drum on the center's decade-old machine failed for good earlier this week. The center serves about 100 meals at lunchtime daily, and that service generates laundry. The residents also generate laundry — clothing, bed linen — as do homeless clients who stop by to clean up.
The center is asking for donations toward a new, 35-pound capacity dryer, estimated to cost $2,500 to $4,000, said Abbey Mortemore, deputy director.
“Now if someone would donate us a commercial dryer, that would be heaven,” Ms. Mortemore said. “But any sort of a cash donation would be wonderful.”
