FOSTORIA -- The Ohio Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal collision in southeast Wood County that killed a Jacksonville, Fla., woman and her 7-year-old son Tuesday and injured three family members.

The crash occurred about 6 p.m. at Stearns Road and State Rt. 199, on the northern edge of Fostoria, when a minivan collided with a UPS tractor-trailer rig, according to troopers from the patrol's Bowling Green post.

Anupama Mandal, 42, a passenger in the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son, Ebhay Kumar, was pronounced dead at Fostoria Community Hospital.

Injured were Ms. Mandal's husband, Atmesh Kumar, 42; Ebhay's twin brother, Amar, and his sister, 11-year-old Adya. They were taken to Toledo Hospital, where Amar was listed in critical condition and Adya and their father both in fair condition, a hospital spokesman said Thursday.

Troopers said Mr. Kumar was driving east on Stearns when he ran a stop sign at Route 199 and drove into the path of the UPS rig, which was northbound on the state route.

The truck driver, Roger Watts, 55, of Waterville, was treated at the Fostoria hospital.

Fostoria is about 35 miles southeast of Toledo.

Trooper Shane Johnson described the intersection as rural, and said it is considered no more hazardous than similar intersections.

Assisting the state patrol at the scene were crews from Fostoria, Bascom, Bloomdale, West Millgrove, and the sheriff's office.
