IDA, Mich. — A 37-year-old man is in the Monroe County jail on a $1 million bond and charged with assault with attempt to murder and felony firearms in connection with an incident Saturday afternoon with his girlfriend at her Ida Township home, according to the Monroe County sheriff's office.

Deputies were called to the 11000 block of Lulu Road at 3:50 p.m. on reports of shots fired. They spoke to the 39-year-old victim, who said she and Aaron Wadsworth had quarrelled and that as she attempted to leave he grabbed a shotgun from the back seat of his vehicle and fired two rounds into her van in an attempt to injure her, according to the sheriff's office. The victim's name was not released.

Also in the van were five children, ranging in age from 2 to 12, and as the victim fled, Mr. Wadsworth fired another round but missed the van, the sheriff's office said.

The victim drove to a nearby residence, called 911, and was treated at Mercy St. Anne Hospital. The sheriff's office said Mr. Wadsworth fled the scene in his vehicle and was arrested in Bedford Township.
