Man fleeing gang on Nebraska Avenue shot in leg

A central-city man was shot in the leg Sunday while trying to flee a gang on Nebraska Avenue east of City Park Avenue, police said.

Kurt Finley, 18, of the 300 block of the Brand Whitlock Homes, told police he had left a carryout at Nebraska and City Park avenues and was walking home about 11:25 p.m. Sunday when several men wearing masks accosted him. One aimed a revolver at his face, according to the report.

The confrontation occurred in the 300 block of Nebraska, outside the Brand Whitlock development.

Mr. Finley told police he ran and later felt a pain and liquid running down his leg. He said the gunman fled across Nebraska into a housing development.

Mr. Finley called 911 from his home and was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. A spokesman said the hospital did not have him as a patient

Detectives said a gang has assaulted people in the area and its members have carried 40-caliber handguns.
