Lucas County traffic deaths rise slightly in '10

Motor vehicle fatalities increased in Lucas County last year, according to the county's traffic safety program.

In 2010, there were 40 deaths resulting from 35 fatal crashes. Eight of the dead were motorcyclists and six were pedestrians.

In 2009, 33 people were killed in 30 crashes. Five were motorcyclists and two were pedestrians.

The driver was impaired in 13 of last year's fatal crashes. Those crashes accounted for 18 deaths.

Last year, 26 of the fatal crashes and 31 of the fatalities occurred in Toledo, according to Gwen Neuendorfer, safety coordinator.
