Recreation passport called success in Mich.

LANSING — Michigan leaders say its new $10 “recreation passport” is a hit among its residents, with 318,035 sold in the program's first three months.

Residents can get a $10 passport when they buy or renew vehicle license plates with the Secretary of State office. The recreation passport fee for Michigan motorcyclists is $5.

Ohioans and residents of other states must still purchase the $29 annual nonresident motor vehicle permit to enter Michigan parks, or pay $8 for a daily pass.

Ohio is one of the few states still offering free entry to state parks.
