Grant to let Fostoria rehire 8 firefighters

1/27/2011

FOSTORIA — Eight laid-off city firefighters are to return to work, thanks to a $1.2 million federal grant. U.S. Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green) announced Fostoria would receive the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant to pay for salaries and benefits of eight firefighters for two years.

City officials welcomed the grant but cautioned it was a short-term solution. The city will have to find a way to keep the firefighters on the payroll after the grant funding expires.
