The Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing has been awarded two prestigious honors for exceptional service.

The 180th, based at Toledo Express Airport, was selected Air Sovereignty Alert Unit of the Year for 2010.

During the review period, the fighter wing scored an “excellent” rating during Air Combat Command operational readiness inspection and implemented a new year-round, 24-hour air sovereignty alert mission in support of Operation Noble Eagle for homeland defense.

In addition, the fighter wing deployed unit members around the world in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and other military operations. It was first time the 180th received the award.

The fighter wing also received the 2010 Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for performing exceptionally meritorious service between November, 2008, and November, 2010. It is the fourth time the base has won that award.
