Emergency responders investigate a crash off the eastbound Anthony Wayne Trail in Maumee in which a man was killed Tuesday morning.

A Toledo man was killed Tuesday morning in a rollover crash that closed the inbound lanes of the Anthony Wayne Trail in Maumee for two hours, authorities said.

George W. Johnson, 41, of 148 West Park St. in Toledo, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Timothy Stratton, the public information officer for Maumee police. An autopsy is scheduled later Tuesday, according to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred about 6:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24 at South Detroit Avenue, according to Maumee police. The man was driving a sedan east on the trail at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car, causing it to overturn, Maumee police Lt. Mike Noble said.

Mr. Johnson was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled over, police said. The car landed on its roof in a grassy area in front of residences between Detroit and Michigan avenues, off the right side of the eastbound Trail, across from Kirk Street.

There were no passengers in the car and no other vehicles involved in the accident.

The inbound lanes of the Trail were closed at Michigan. Traffic on the Trail returned to normal at 8:40 a.m., police said.
