BOWLING GREEN — The city of Bowling Green Tuesday donated 500 of the 2,000 oak tree seedlings it got recently from an environmental organization to Lake Township.

City arborist David Bienemann said the Living Lands & Waters organization awarded the seedlings to the city as part of its “Million Trees Project,” which aims to help in the protection, preservation, and restoration of the natural environment along the nation’s rivers and watersheds. In Bowling Green, the trees will be planted on city-owned green space, given to residents, and donated to the Wood County Solid Waste District.

In Lake Township, where a tornado hit last year, trees will be planted in township-owned green spaces and parks and the village of Millbury, said Ron Hanlin, parks supervisor.
