Driver of SUV killed in collison
4/29/2011A driver was killed Thursday afternoon when his sport-utility vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided at U.S. 20-A and Eber Road in Monclova Township.
The driver, Ralph E. Pierce, 80, of Toledo, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers with the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Mr. Pierce was southbound on Eber about 5:15 p.m. when he did not stop at the stop sign, troopers said. He struck the right rear of the trailer, which was westbound on U.S. 20-A. The rig was driven by Vaseerathan Pathmanathan, 31, of Woodbridge, Ont., who was not injured.
Mr. Pathmanathan was wearing a seat belt. Troopers did not report whether Mr. Pierce wore a seat belt.
