AAA says Ohio gas prices hit record high
May climb more ahead of summer driving season
4/30/2011COLUMBUS — Gas prices in Ohio have hit a record high.
A gallon of regular-grade gasoline averaged $4.11 statewide Saturday in the daily survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express. That tops the state's all-time high of $4.05 a gallon, which was set July 3, 2008, and was matched Friday.
AAA Ohio Auto Club spokeswoman Kimberly Schwind says she expects prices to climb for several days, but relief may be on the way.
She says gas prices usually follow crude oil prices, which climbed amid unrest in the Middle East and northern Africa but appear to have leveled off. She also says prices typically peak around the second week of May, on the brink of the summer driving season, then level or drop off.
