BLISSFIELD — Flooding of the River Raisin has caused organizers of Sunday’s River Raisin Festival May Day Run to move the start and finish to downtown Blissfield, as Bachmayer and Ellis parks are under water.

The downtown block of Lane Street between U.S. 223 on the north and Jefferson Street on the south, will be closed to traffic. The registration desk will be located near the Lane Street gazebo, in the center of the downtown. Registration begins at 11 a.m.; the 5K run begins at 1 p.m.; and the Kids’ Trot starts shortly after. Parking is available in all three downtown village lots.

Runners can still sign up Sunday to compete, but shirts were only available to those who preregistered. The Run/Walk registration fee tomorrow is $25 and the Kids’ Trot is $15. Anyone with questions is asked to e-mail advance@cass.net. Medals will go to the top two males and females in each age class (see www.blissfield.net for the classes and registration form), as well as the overall male and female winner.

“We’re actually excited about the change. There are nice restaurants downtown for those who are bringing family to watch,” said Marcia Loader, run chairman. “In addition, many of the shops are open, so it gives everyone something to do waiting for the race to start or results to be announced.”
