Alumna leaves Bluffton $600,000

BLUFFTON — A 1941 graduate of the former Bluffton College has left $600,000 to her alma mater — the second largest gift in Bluffton University’s history.

Virginia Fisher White, who died Sept. 8, 2009, received a bachelor’s degree in foreign language with a major in Latin and minor in art. She taught art for 34 years in Lima and Elida, Ohio, schools.

University officials said her bequest will establish an endowed scholarship in her memory and in memory of her parents, Nina and Harold Fisher, and will go toward the university’s planned Health and Fitness Education Center.

The scholarship is the second to be established by Mrs. White. Last year, the Virginia Fisher White and Walter L. White Scholarship was set up with first preference going to a student majoring in art or education.
