Lawyer, 8 students feted at Toledo Law Day event

A local lawyer and eight area students have been honored at the Toledo Bar Association’s annual Law Day event.

Thomas G. Pletz of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP, was named Distinguished Toledo Attorney. Also acknowledged were the winners of the annual student essay contest, who received plaques from The Blade and U.S. Savings Bonds from the Toledo Bar Association.

Eleventh and 12-grade winners were Jeramee Gwozdz, Springfield High School, first, Stevan Jechura, Maumee High School, second, and Brooke Tullis, Maumee High School, third.

Winners in the ninth and 10th-grade division were Clay Parlette, Genoa Area High School, first, and Elena Sokoloski, Maumee High School, second.

The winners in among the seventh and eighth graders were Lauren Kohler, first, Marianna Montrie, second, and Steven O’Neill, third. All are from West Side Montessori Center.

Speaking at the event Friday was retired Judge Nathaniel R. Jones of the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.
