MONROE — A “pit bull” rescue group and the Monroe Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will host a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the community room at the Mall of Monroe to update the conditions of four dogs seized in March during the raid of an alleged “pit bull” fight.

A judge last week handed over the dogs to the Monroe Society and Buster Foundation of Belleville, Mich. after two were hurt while in cages at the Animal Control shelter.

The groups also will discuss animal welfare in Monroe County. Information on becoming a volunteer will also be available.

The dogs were among the animals found March 6 at a property in Raisinville Township, where authorities said two dogs, who both died, were fighting for a championship. Twenty-seven people were arrested.
