MONROE — A boil water advisory has been issued for users of the Monroe water system because of high levels of coliform bacteria that were detected in the water supply.

The city and the Monroe County Health Department has issued a warning to boil all city water prior to consumption.

Customers of the system are asked to refrain from drinking water unless it has been boiled. This warning was posted Wednesday afternoon and is expected to be lifted in the next 48 hours, the city said.
