City of Monroe suspends its boil-water advisory

MONROE -- The city of Monroe has lifted its boil alert for tap water, telling residents it's safe again to drink what comes out of their faucets.

The alert was lifted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. It was put into effect Wednesday.

City officials said an "appropriate corrective measure has been taken and considerable follow-up sampling has confirmed that no coliform bacteria are present in the water supply."

Officials recommend residents flush their home's plumbing by running cold water for 60 to 90 seconds, then running hot water for five minutes.
