BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce is once again seeking donations to cover the cost of this year’s fireworks display, which for the first time will be held July 3.

City residents and businesses kicked in more than $14,000 last year after the city said it could not afford to pay for the annual show. Then the city got a $10,000 boost when it won Liberty Mutual’s Bring Back the 4th contest.

Earlene Kilpatrick, the chamber’s executive director, said $9,200 was left over to help pay for this year’s show, which will cost more than $15,000. The chamber, along with co-organizers First Federal Bank and Newlove Realty, still needs about $1,500 for this year’s fireworks, which can be viewed from the Doyt Perry Stadium at Bowling Green State University or the intramural fields.

Donations to the 2011 Bowling Green Community Fireworks Fund may be made at First Federal Bank, 1226 West Wooster St., or at the chamber, 163 North Main St.
