BOWLING GREEN — Five juveniles have been charged with assault after an incident on a Lakota District school bus in Risingsun last month in which a Lakota Middle School student was assaulted.

The student said he was beaten up on the way home from school after a boy on the bus allegedly offered $100 to other students to assault him.

The charges announced Monday are equivalent to first-degree misdemeanors. Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson said in a release that the incident did not merit more serious charges since there was no proof of serious physical harm.

Video from a bus security camera captured the attack, according to Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn. The prosecutor’s office, however, is not releasing the video under two sections of Ohio’s Public Records Act — trial preparation and confidential investigation records.

Summons are being issued for each juvenile, who will appear in Wood County Juvenile Court at a later date.
