NEY, Ohio — A Bryan man was injured when the motorcycle he was driving crashed Monday night on State Rt. 15 just north of this Defiance County community, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Melvin Schilt, 52, was taken to Toledo Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to the patrol’s Defiance post. He was listed in fair condition, a hospital spokesman said Tuesday morning.

Mr. Schilt was northbound on Route 15 in Washington Township about 9:10 p.m. when he accelerated well over the posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour, troopers said. He then failed to round a road curve, drove off the right side of the road, and lost control of the motorcycle as he was trying to steer the vehicle back onto the road.

The motorcycle skidded off the left side of the road and overturned several times, propelling Mr. Schilt about 250 feet back onto the roadway, according to the patrol.

Mr. Schilt was wearing a helmet, troopers said.

The crash remained under investigation.

Ney is about 50 miles southwest of Toledo.
