DTE Energy seeks help in naming eagle chicks

MONROE — DTE Energy Co. has new residents at its Monroe County facilities — four bald eagle chicks — and is asking for help in naming them.

Two of the eaglets live in a cottonwood tree near the Fermi 2 nuclear plant’s cooling towers. The parents have built five nests at Fermi 2 over the last 15 years. Their previous nest was destroyed in a tornado last year. Two eaglets are in a tree near Plum Creek on the grounds of the Monroe Power Plant.

Suggestions are being taken at facebook.com/dteenergy. The utility is offering no prize other than “the pride and satisfaction of helping name the bald eagles,” according to DTE’s announcement. Eaglet names will be announced July 1.
