PETERSBURG, Mich. — A 39-year-old Toledo man died Saturday night after he was pulled from the pond of the Monroe/Toledo North KOA in Monroe County’s Summerfield Township.

The man, identified as Michael L. Jackson, was taken to Flower Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Monroe County sheriff’s deputies said Mr. Jackson was swimming in about 12 feet of water near the center of the pond about 7:50 p.m when friends and family members noticed he was in distress and went under the surface.

He was brought out of the water by family members and bystanders.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed by off-duty medics from Van Buren Township in Wayne County and by nurses, all of whom happened to be swimming and camping at the campground, deputies said.
