Road workers clean up unraveled spools of aluminum on the entrance ramp to I-280 from southbound I-75.

A portion of southbound I-280 remains closed Friday afternoon after a tractor-trailer rig spilled a load of aluminum coils on the I-75 entrance ramp.

The accident occurred just before noon, unspooling the coils all over the roadway and damaging a concrete wall. The coils, authorities said, weigh about 18,000 pounds each.

The interstate is closed between I-75 South and Manhattan Boulevard, authorities said. Traffic was clogged on southbound I-75 for about a mile leading up to the ramp.
