DETROIT -- Former University of Toledo running back Harvey "Scooter" McDougle pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to conspiracy to influence sporting events by bribery.

McDougle appeared before U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook, Jr., after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors and admitting his role in a point-shaving scheme allegedly involving six other UT athletes and two Detroit-area gamblers.

McDougle, who is scheduled to be back in federal court Sept. 22 for sentencing, is the third member of the accused athletes and gamblers to enter a guilty plea.

Former UT football player Adam Cuomo and former UT basketball player Sammy Villegas are both still awaiting sentencing after pleading their guilt.

All of the accused former athletes could each face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
