SOUTH ROCKWOOD, Mich. — A weekend crash that killed a 17-year-old girl and injured another teen on I-75 south of this Monroe County community apparently was caused by a wrong-way driver, authorities said.

Jazzmine Cierra Pringle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Michigan State Police.

Tori Bianca Toliva, also 17, passenger in Ms. Pringle's car, was treated at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center in Trenton, Mich., police said.

The teenagers, returning to Detroit from Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, were northbound on the interstate near Ready Road in Monroe County’s Berlin Township 12:25 a.m. Sunday when their car was struck head-on by a pickup being driven the wrong way by a 31-year-old Britton, Mich., causing the truck to overturn.

The name of the driver of the pickup was being withheld pending police investigation, officers said.

Police said they had found several cans of beer and liquor on the road around the pickup and a half-full keg of beer inside it. Charges were pending, police said.

South Rockwood is about 30 miles northeast of Toledo.
