The deadline to pay your property taxes, or at least get your check in the mail, is Friday, according to a reminder sent out Tuesday from Lucas County Treasurer Wade Kapszukiewicz.

Second-half tax bills are normally due to be paid by July 31. But that day falls on a Sunday, and Aug. 1 is an “immovable date” for imposing prior-year delinquent interest penalties, according to the treasurer’s office.

Payments sent by mail must be postmarked by July 29 to avoid a penalty.

Taxes can also be paid in person at the treasurer’s office, on the 5th floor of One Government Center, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or at any of the following banks: Key Bank, Huntington Bank, Fifth Third Bank, First Federal Bank, State Bank and Trust, and Genoa Banking Center.

Payments can be made with cash, personal check, certified check, or money order. Credit card payments will be accepted from those paying in-person at the Treasurer’s office.
