TIFFIN — In a bid to collect past-due real estate taxes before taking property owners to court, Seneca County officials have collected more than $38,000.

Seneca County Prosecutor Derek DeVine said his office had sent out 154 letters telling property owners his office would begin the collection. In the next several weeks, prosecutors plan to order title searches, the step before foreclosure actions are filed. Those who do not pay soon could incur additional expenses in the future from title-search and foreclosure lawsuit fees, said Seneca County Treasurer Damon Alt.
