BRYAN — A 5-year-old Pioneer boy who became lost in a cornfield Wednesday afternoon while looking for his brother, crossed the entire 40 acres before being found safely on the other side two hours later.

The Williams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a missing child at 1:45 p.m. The boy had been playing in the yard at 14103 County Road 17, when he wandered into the cornfield south of County Road-North 30.

Life Flight medical helicopter was called in to conduct an aerial search. The Kunkle and Pioneer Fire Departments, Williams County EMS and several residents conducted row-by-row searches of the cornfield on foot.

The child was located by a Williams County Sheriff’s deputy at the perimeter of the field. The boy told the deputy he was looking for his brother, whom the child thought was actually the one who was lost.

He was returned safely without injury to his mother, said Sergeant Ryan Baird of the Williams County Sheriff’s Office.

Bryan is about 60 miles west of Toledo.
