MONROE -- Voters in several Monroe County villages hit the polls Tuesday to decide the elections of president and other offices.
Maybee Councilmen Dale Youngblood and Mark Liedel retained their seats for another four-year term, while incumbent Clifford Weyher and challenger John Gross have apparently tied with 18 votes, according to unofficial results of votes cast Tuesday in the Monroe County village.
Mr. Youngblood had 33 votes and Mr. Liedel had 20. Bob Miller received 9 and Al Zeluff 16 votes in their unsuccessful bids for one of three open seats.
President Leonard Gaylor and Treasurer Jean Grubb ran unopposed.
In Carleton, Ron Lambrix, village president, defeated challenger Glenn Goodnight, 187-55.
Dennis McCormick and Donald Mell, incumbent trustees, were re-elected with 180 and 125 votes, respectively, while challengers John McShosh and Mike Perline tied at 106 for the third seat in contention.
For treasurer, Thomas Zemke defeated Joseph Leiffer, 135-88.
Clerk Lenora Buckingham was unopposed.
In Estral Beach, President Danny Swindle defeated John Wiegand 97-85 for election to a four-year council term.
Elected trustees were Laurie Sharkus, Kelli Gearhart, and Adam Younglove, defeating Barbara Baldwin, Edward Dyson, David Emmerich, and incumbent Edward Dyson.
South Rockwood voters retained President Daniel Tilley over John Beaudrie, a former council member and president, 101-32.
Chuck Horn and Arthur Wenzel retained their seats on council, while John Clore and Debra Ramsey tied at 78.
South Rockwood voters approved a 2-mill property tax issue, 97-77, to fund flood control measures in the village. The three-year proposal will generate $28,000 in the first year and pay for rebuilding a pump house and dike improvements.
In Lenawee, voters elected three to Cement City council. Lawrence Babinger and James Ellis are on the ballot and Donna Jean Irelan and Stanton Trumble are write-ins.
In Onsted, there were write-in candidates only for village president, clerk, treasurer, and council.
Ronald Bailey, Thanna Oechsle, and Frank Johnson were the only declared write-in candidates for president, clerk, and treasurer.
Heidi C. Cannon, Wendell K. Johncox, Sam LaFata, and Fred W. Wilkins are running for three seats on council.
Results for Onsted and Cement City were not available Tuesday night because write-in ballots must be certified by the board of canvassers.
