BG homeowners free from sewer line

BOWLING GREEN -- Sixty-one of the 69 homeowners previously ordered to tap into a sanitary sewer line north of Bowling Green have received variances that will exempt them from the requirement, health officials said yesterday.

Brad Espen, director of environmental health for the Wood County Health Department, said residential property owners along the four-mile path of a sewer installed 10 years ago to the Midstar Business Park at State Rts. 25 and 582, were granted a variance by the board of health in July when it determined the project was excessively expensive, was not in response to health concerns, and because the Northwestern Water and Sewer District had told them in writing in 2001 that they would not have to tap into the line. Residents had until last Friday to apply for the variances.

Jerry Greiner, executive director of the water and sewer district, said “11 to 15” owners of commercial and residential properties have requested tap-ins to the Midstar line -- work that is expected to be done later this year by Hank’s Plumbing & Heating Inc.
