DEFIANCE — The Defiance-based Ridge Project has received federal funding totaling $4 million to continue and expand a family-centered prisoner re-entry program.

The Ridge Project was awarded two grants from the Administration of Children and Families/Office of Family Assistance, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The nonprofit group recently was designated a “best practice” in part because of its success with incarcerated fathers and their families.

Ron Tijerina, Ridge Project Director, said the funding will allow the organization to serve about 10 times as many clients a year.
