MARBLEHEAD, Ohio — A Marblehead man was killed and a Sandusky man was injured when a minivan and a car collided at an intersection near this Ottawa County community Monday night, the Ohio Highway patrol said.

Manuel Lopez-Lopez, 25, a passenger in the minivan driven by Jose Castrejon, 49, also of Marblehead, was pronounced dead at the scene in Ottawa County’s Danbury Township. Mr. Lopez-Lopez, who was not using a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, according to the patrol’s Sandusky post.

The minivan was westbound on Port Clinton Eastern at Route 269 about 10:14 p.m. when it stopped at a stop sign and then pulled into the path of the car driven by Karl Busam, 58, of Sandusky, who was driving south on the state route, troopers said.

The car struck the right rear side of the van, causing it to spin, at which time Mr. Lopez-Lopez was thrown on the ground, according to the patrol.

Mr. Busam suffered a head injury that did not appear to be serious and refused medical treatment at the scene. Mr. Castrejon and Mateo Lopez-Lopez of Marblehead, his other passenger whose age was unknown, were not injured; they were using seat belts, troopers said.

Marblehead is about 40 miles east of Toledo.
