TIFFIN — Seneca County’s 1884 courthouse could be leveled for as little as $373,000.

County commissioners on Tuesday opened bids from two contractors vying for the job of demolishing the downtown landmark. The low bid was submitted by B&B Wrecking of Cleveland, the same company that submitted the low bid of $369,000 when demolition bids were taken in 2008.

The board did not award the bid but said it could take a vote to do so on Nov. 17. MKC Associates, an architectural firm hired to oversee the demolition bidding process, is expected to analyze the bids before making a recommendation to commissioners.

Historic preservationists working to save the now-vacant courthouse continued their campaign Tuesday, meeting with commissioners shortly after the bids were opened.
